In this four-day Morocco Camel Trekking Tour, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in nomadic desert trekking life. Along this trekking tour you will see diverse desert landscapes, eat mouth-watering traditional food, and sleep in cozy Morocco wild desert camps or under the stars. Although there will be plenty of trekking, we will also have a lot of time to relax and take breaks from camel trekking. Clear your head, your body, and your heart by immersing yourself in the peaceful solitude of a Sahara trek.

Itinerary

Camel trekking to Erg Zeher from M'Hamid El Ghizlane

Day 1: M'hamid - Ras Nekhale - Sidi Naji

The beginning of our Morocco camel trek: finding our rhythm

Your Morocco camel trek will start in the morning around 9am. You can either arrive that day or stay in our traditional adobe-style basecamp the night before (free delicious breakfast included). We will greet you with tea, as is our custom, and discuss the journey ahead to make sure you have everything you need for our Morocco desert hike.

After packing up our camels, we start our Sahara trek towards the wild desert and the big dunes of Erg Zahar. It won't take long to become immersed in the quiet solitude of the Sahara. We will take a break from trekking and enjoy our lunch in the shadow of a swaying palm tree at the edge of the Ras Nekhale oasis. Lunch is followed by a cup of traditional Nomad tea to get energy for the rest of our camel trekking tour. As the sun sets, we will set up a wild Morocco desert camp near Sidi Naji (a sacred shrine of the nomad people). We spend the night with a delicious traditional dinner under the starlit sky.

Day 2: Sidi Naji - Erg Zahar

The culmination of our Morocco camel trekking tour: Erg Zeher

Waking up refreshed in the cool morning air, we will start to settle into our routine of tea and a delicious breakfast in the soft light. Today, we set our sights on the beautiful and immense dunes of Erg Zeher. Along our camel trek, we will also see the remnants of an ancient bazaar from hundreds of years ago when caravans passed through this area. In the distance, you will soon see the peaks of Erg Zeher's largest dunes. We arrive near the evening, and you will be free to trek to the summit of the highest dunes to watch a breathtaking desert sunset. Under a sea of stars, we will relax together and share stories over cookies and tea after our long day of camel trekking. We will have dinner and sleep under the Milky Way or in Nomadic tents.

 

Day 3 Erg Zahar - Oued Naam

Learning about desert wildlife along our Morocco camel trek

After a great sunrise in the dunes, we have breakfast and continue our Sahara trek to the beautiful landscape along the river Oued Naam. As we trek, settling into the rhythm of our camels again, we may see white desert foxes, elegant desert birds, and little scarab beetles. We will also teach you about the plants of the desert, which ones are important for life in this climate, and which ones are dangerous to eat.

 

Day 4 Oued Naam - M'hamid

The last day of our Morocco Camel Trekking Tour

We have breakfast and start our camel trek towards M'Hamid El Ghizlane. Lunch will be near the small dunes around M'Hamid before trekking to our basecamp in the afternoon. There, we can enjoy the Morocco desert camp, have a shower, and take a rest from all our desert trekking. Although we've only been gone for a few days, your heart and mind will feel peaceful and refreshed from the tranquil desert.

It's always sunny and warm during the day in the Sahara, but make sure to bring cozy layers for at night! Here are normal temperatures for specific seasons.

Food

All meals are included on our trek, and we are happy to accommodate clients with food-sensitivities. Please let us know in advance if you would like us to prepare vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free meals. 

Transportation

For clients traveling by bus/taxi/rental car:

There are taxis and CTM buses (similar to Flixbus or Greyhound) to and from multiple destinations (Zagora, Ouarzazate, Marrakech, Casablanca...). For example, there are daily departures of the CTM bus from Marrakech at 11:15 am, and daily return leaving from MHamid at 6:15 am at the same price. The destination on CTM website is called “Lamhamid Ghozlane”, and it's the last stop. We are happy to pick you up at the bus station.

Parking
