Follow in the footsteps of Berber Nomads over the centuries--from where the paved road ends, to the highest dunes in the Western Sahara: Erg Chegaga. Over four days and nearly 60 km (40 miles), trek alongside your experienced Berber guides who know this region as their home. Learn about the Sahara's fragile ecosystem, gain a new understanding of Moroccan culture, and dwell in the deep, blissful solitude of the desert.

Day 1: Mhamid– Oued Naam

You are free to arrive the day before or in the morning on our departure date. 

Our trip begins in the oasis village of M'Hamid El Ghizlane, also known as the "Door of the Desert". We will pick you up from the bus station, your taxi, or if you are in a rental car, in the village square. We will take you to our peaceful basecamp just outside of the village among the small dunes at the beginning of the Sahara. Here, you are free to secure large luggage and to park your rental car. We will share tea, as is our tradition, and discuss the logistics of the journey ahead. 

In the mid-afternoon, your camels arrive. After 2 hours of walking in the golden dunes, we have lunch in Rass Nkhal and continue walking to Oued Naam, where we will make camp and spend the night under the beautiful stars and near outstanding dunes. Meal is prepared on spot.

Day 2: Oued Naam - Erg Bougarn

The second day of your Morocco camel trekking tour take you to Erg Bougarn.

In the morning, you enjoy a 2 hours trek in the desert. You continue walking along the Oued Draa (the Draa Valley) and have lunch in Lotide. You enjoy beautiful landscapes. The caravan of camels make his way in the dunes of the Sahara. The landscapes are exotic, the silence all around you...relaxing, meditation...

We head on for about another 2 hours to reach Erg Bougarn, a huge beautiful dune surounded by smaller dunes, where we spend our night.

During a Morocco desert trek, you will sleep in the desert, in a mobile desert camp. You can sleep in the tent or under the stars. The experience is unique.

Day 3: Erg Bougarn - Erg Chegaga 

You will have breakfast, then departure from Erg Bougarn in the morning. If you wake up early, you can admire the sunrise in the desert.

The 3d day of your Sahara camel trekking, you will arrive in the highest dunes in the Moroccan desert, in Erg Chegaga.

You walk for around 2 hours to Al Khandag to have lunch and from there we continue to the big dunes of Chegaga.

The landscapes are impressive! You will enjoy walking in Erg Chegaga. A big dunes, a wild places to discover, nomadic camps...

Day 4: Erg Chegaga - M'Hamid 

It's the last day of your Morocco camel trekking tour! After breakfast we return to M'Hamid in 4x4.

Erg Chegaga is located at about 60km from M'hamid. Your trip continue by 2 hours of driving on the track in the desert.

Arriving in M'hamid, where your Morocco desert trip ends.

*  You can leave large baggage at our basecamp free of charge.


Other Information


It's always sunny and warm during the day in the Sahara, but make sure to bring cozy layers for at night! Here are normal temperatures for specific seasons.

All meals are included on our trek. Please let us know in advance if you would like us to prepare vegetarian, vegan, or gluten free meals. 


There are taxis and CTM buses (similar to Flixbus or Greyhound) to and from multiple destinations (Zagora, Ouarzazate, Marrakech, Casablanca...). For example, there are daily departures of the CTM bus from Marrakech at 11:15 am for 170 MAD (around 17 €), and daily return leaving from MHamid at 6:15 am at the same price. The destination on CTM website is called “Lamhamid Ghozlane”, and it's the last stop. We are happy to pick you up at the bus station.


If needed, you can park your rental car at our basecamp free of charge.


Safety is the most important part of any excursion, and we take it very seriously. You will be accompanied by expert guides who have trekked in this area of the desert for 10+ years and are trained to handle emergencies.
